September 5, 2023 (New York, NY) Asian Wave Alliance (AWA) endorses David Hirsch for New York Assembly District 27. Our members had the opportunity to meet with Mr. Hirsch and hear his priorities which includes stopping the Kew Gardens jail, keeping the SHSAT for the Specialized High Schools, opposing congestion pricing and ending migrant shelters in our neighborhoods.
“The Asian community feels frustrated with Albany – passing laws that make our city less safe and more expensive. We need to send a message that things have got to change.”, says Yiatin Chu, president of Asian Wave Alliance. “Mr. Hirsch will stand up for our community and fight the misguided policies of NYC’s migrant crisis which is affecting all New Yorkers.”, added Phil Wong, co-founder of AWA and President of the Chinese American Citizens Alliance Greater New York.
Asians make up over 30% of District 27 which includes College Point, Whitestone, and Kew Gardens Hills in Queens. The turnout for this Special Election is expected to be low so the Asian community’s votes could be the deciding factor in this race.
Early voting is already underway, 9/2-9/10; election day is September 12. We urge all registered voters in district 27 — Democrat, Republican, unaffiliated — to vote for David Hirsch for State Assembly.
